Axel Waldemar Jørgensen

"Waldemar  Jørgensen was a painter. He was born 10.06.1879 in Svendborg and died 26.3.1929 in Paris. His parents were the shipman Jörgen Christian Jörgensen and Marie Elisabeth Johansen. He was married in 1903 in Viborg with Paula Johanne Schjøtt, born 2.7.1872 in Gerlev, Randers County. She died 4.7.1932 in Paris and was the daughter of the priest Frederik Viggo Erik Frisenberg Thorup S and Alvilda Neergaard.

For some years, Valdemar Jørgensen was employed by the Copenhagen porcelain factories and worked here signing artist for underglaze painting. His style was decorative, often japanizing. However, around 1901-02 he went all the way to painting. J. learned fresco in a Belgian monastery and lived a time at the monastery of Monte Cassino, where great frescoes had been performed under the direction of Pater Desiderius. In Paris, he painted portraits and performed numerous watercolors, painted with light hand and often with a free, decorative attitude. Because of J.'s ill health, his production was not very extensive.

Jörgensen was educated in painting classes in Svendborg and Vejle; Zahrtmann's School 1899-1901; learned fresco. at the Benedictines of the Maredsous Monastery in Belgium, 1901-02; Joakim Skovgaard helped in Viborg Domk. o. 1902.

Jörgensen was living in Paris from 1900 until his death, except in the years 1909-14 and 1921-23, spent in Copenhagen .; cease. in the monastery of Maredsous, Belgium and in Cassino, Italy, o. 1901-02.

Jörgensen was employed by Bing & Grondahl 1909 and by the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain factory June 1911-Sept. 1912."
