Elias Pedersen
Peter Elias Pedersen, was an educated painter. He was born 12.08.1859 in Copenhagen., died 23.01.1950 also in Copenhagen. Urn His parents were Bendt Pedersen and Charlotte Wilhelmine Kempovsky.
He was an art student of Thorolf Pedersen in Gilleleje, further teached by C. Leuning Borch 1882-83 at the Technical School in Copenhagen. 1883-84 at Krøyers school.
Elias Petersen was linked his entire active life to Gilleleje, where he had his summer address. He exhibited individual portraits, but sailing ships were his favorite subject. He maintained the changing weather conditions, hours of the day and light and seasonal different color effects in his paintings. A characteristic composition renders ships at sea with a low coastal strip at the horizon. After having decorated various porcelain at The Royal Copenhagen Porcelain (1892-96) he moved to Bing & Grondahl where he stayed until 1928? Here he decorated vases with raised enamel glaze, an invention that he made during his time at Bing&Gröndahl. He tried to sell the invention to the factory but that failed.
