Valdemar Engelhardt
Valdemar Engelhardt (1860-1915) was a ceramic chemist employed at Royal Copenhagen from 1892 until 1915. An expert in crystalline and flambé glazes, he was responsible for some of the best pieces to come from the manufactory.
"...in this special technique, which is today for almost any manufactory a contest for technical capability, Copenhagen will not be beaten by any other factory, as a maximum Sevres comes close to that...." (Bormann, page 89). With his work and the pieces that he manufactured he had a major share in the success and the status that Royal Copenhagen achieved. Following the Chemist Auguste Clement, who was the founder of the crystal glazes at Royal Copenhagen, he was able to bring this technique to perfection and develop new glazes.
