Second marriage with weaver Gerda Heydorn on 26.02.1918 at Frederiksberg. Gerhard Henning met the Swedish painter Ivar Arosenius on Slöjdföreningens School in Gothenburg 1897-98, and this friendship was of great importance for the young Henning that to about 1907 preferably worked as a painter and graphic artist in a style that, like circuit around Arosenius, was inspired by Aubrey Beardsley. In 1909, Henning was employed at the Royal. Porcelain Manufactory, and thus got the plastic work a greater weight. For the factory, he performed refined small groups with ornamental decoration in the glaze, stylistically influenced by French 1700's art. But after being a friend of Kai Nielsen and with him studied sculpture, preferably at the Glyptotek, changed his form expression. It was especially C. Meunier, Auguste Rodin, Aristide Maillol, A.-J. Dalou and some of the ancient works that made an impression, and gradually grew a more personal and monumental expressions forward in his sculptures. Henning interested in early ancient poetry, including for Ovid's Metamorphoses, and from there he got the inspiration for numerous small groups of love, Cupid and Psyche, Pygmalion and Galatea, etc. But the center of, s work had throughout life the naked female figure, which he first worked with in society and opposition with Kai Nielsen. , S statuette Lying girl from 1914, so the basis for Kai Nielsen Leda without the swan, again in the long term, by Kai Nielsen's death in 1924, gave Henning courage to try out the large format. The range of, s major female figures began with the position in terms of bold Danae 1927, quickly followed by the lush bulging Standing girl from 1928-29. But he changed sculpture style around 1930 with Modern girl who is a slimmer type with short hair in contrast to the tidily arranged antique inspired, heavy hairstyles. Well into the 1930s, he fitted the naked female figures wearing shoes and socks, detailer, he later omitted. Sitting girl from 1937-38 built up over a complex diagonal motive, but appears nonetheless to weight in a calm, harmonious balance. Lying girl from 1942-43 has the same mix of job complexity and harmony. , S last major sculpture, Susanne 1964, he had worked for 10 years, and the starting point was a motif used in several Pygmalion and Galatea sketches from 1919-20, he repeatedly had later taken up. , S feel for the shape curve and excitement for the lush gravity and the complex balance that make themselves known in his model drawings and in his three-dimensional shapes, making him one of the weightiest sculptors of the female figure in Danish sculpture
